News Release

San Manuel Casino

“As the coronavirus pandemic and our response to it continues to affect just about every aspect of our world, we remain committed to the principle that the health and safety of our community is simply the most important priority. We look to local and state health and safety guidance, as well as our own retained medical experts, to identify the path to the safest and most sustainable reopening.

Therefore, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has decided to extend the closure of San Manuel Casino beyond May 31. While we are hoping for a reopening date in June, it is too early to announce one with absolute certainty.

In anticipation of a June reopening, enterprise leadership will begin to recall team members to their positions. All team members will be required to be certified in our COVID-19 Health and Safety Training Program before returning to work.

A summary of our working Health & Safety Plan can be found on our website. Please note that our plan continues to evolve as we receive new information and implement best practices. To ensure the health and safety of our team members and guests, our casino will need to re-open in phases with limitations on our gaming positions. In developing our new operating plans, there will be certain amenities that will not be available for the foreseeable future. We will continue to keep the public and our guests informed over the coming weeks. These business realities have forced the gut-wrenching decision that the Tribe has tried to avoid since the beginning of this pandemic: we have implemented furloughs and lay-offs for the first time in our 34-year history. Those impacted have been notified and we are supporting them in navigating unemployment insurance, providing outplacement services, and assisting them in exploring opportunities with us in newly created positions including Social Distancing Ambassadors and Safety Concierges.

We are working tirelessly to re-build our businesses so we can welcome back as many team members as possible, sustain self-sufficiency for our tribal citizens and government, and continue to drive economic and philanthropic support for our surrounding communities.”
