Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe
The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is reporting thee (3) new active cases of COVID-19 and continues to report seven (7) of our relatives in quarantine under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. Contact tracing is continuing to be conducted on the new cases. If you are contacted by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Health Services or Franklin County Public Health for contact tracing, please cooperate to the best of your knowledge.
The three (3) new cases combine to make 76 total positive cases of COVID-19 reported since March 28, 2020; with 5,232 COVID-tests conducted to date. There are no family and friends reported for hospitalization.
With the number of cases continuing to increase all around the Akwesasne community, the Emergency Operations Center continues to encourage community members to remain vigilant and follow all safety measures being recommended. Our community has shown tremendous consideration and care for each other’s health and safety. Please keep up the great job!
Vaccinations will be available in early-January to frontline health staff and other tribal programs that have regular contact with the community. Those that are at high health risk and 65yrs and older will have access to vaccines by February. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggested prioritization is being followed.
It is expected that a sufficient number of doses for public vaccinations will be available in April or May. Until that time, individuals are encouraged to begin educating yourself on the COVID-19 vaccines. In the coming weeks and months, Health Services will be conducting an education campaign to help raise awareness on the benefits, as well as any side effects, of the vaccines.
