Office of Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS-03)

Representative Sharice Davids (KS-03) highlighted the challenges and inequality tribes face regarding tax policy during a House Committee on Ways and Means hearing today titled, “Examining the Impact of the Tax Code on Native American Tribes.”

Davids joined Native American Caucus Co-Chairs Deb Haaland and Markwayne Mullin to urge the committee to consider the needs of Indian Country when crafting federal tax policy.

“I hear regularly from Indian Country about the challenges and inequality faced when it comes to the federal tax code. I’ve also seen it firsthand. It is my hope that this committee, along with other committees in the House, can serve as a proving ground for the greater inclusion of tribal voices in federal policy and that tribes can be regularly consulted on national tax issues,” said Davids.

Davids’ full remarks can be viewed below. Davids begins speaking at 22:46.
