News Release

RAINN

RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, today is excited to publicly launch our Thrive Together campaign with a brand new campaign video. Thrive Together is a strategic $10 million, two-year fundraising effort to increase critical resources to ensure that RAINN is ready to support anyone affected by sexual violence when they need us most.

“After a year of philanthropic engagements and efforts, RAINN is proud to share that we have surpassed the 50 percent fundraising milestone,” said Andrea M. Pagano-Reyes, RAINN’s vice president of development.

Lead campaign gifts include investments in RAINN by MacKenzie Scott, campaign chair Janet Jensen, National Leadership Council member and former National Sexual Assault Hotline volunteer Marci Matthews, and Platinum Corporate Partner, Lyft.

Over the past 26 years, RAINN has provided crisis support to more than 3.5 million people through the National Sexual Assault Hotline and our survivor-centered and trauma-informed victim services programs.

Demand for RAINN’s unique expertise and support has soared over the past few years. Before so many took to social media to say #MeToo, our victim services programs were helping an average of about 15,000 survivors and their loved ones each month. Today, as the world grapples with COVID-19, that number has nearly doubled.

“This is personal. Sexual violence takes a piece of your soul,” says campaign chair Janet Jensen, a survivor and a lifelong advocate against sexual violence and exploitation. “There’s more freedom to talk about sexual violence now. Thirty-seven years ago, when I went through this, that wasn’t the case. With more people reaching out for support than ever before, we need to make sure RAINN has the resources to support them wherever they are in their healing journey. I have made it my mission to help survivors grow, and I know this campaign is exactly how we do that—together.”

RAINN’s commitment to survivors will never waver. As public awareness grows and the country prioritizes the fight against sexual violence, RAINN recognizes the need to expand our capacity and identify new resources to provide free, confidential, trauma-informed support, 24/7. This is what drove us to create RAINN’s Thrive Together campaign.

Funds raised through the Thrive Together campaign will bolster three strategic initiatives to support survivors and help end sexual violence:

  • Answering the Call. You’re not alone. In addition to expanding our team of support specialists, we will expand our online training program and create new technological innovations to enhance our services and increase our capacity to help survivors.
  • Shaping the Narrative. Stories have the power to spark change. We will harness our national scope and longstanding partnerships with the entertainment industry to lead conversations around sexual violence, raise awareness and educate the public through the media and entertainment, and bring hope to survivors and their loved ones by amplifying the voices of survivors.
  • Championing Change. Now more than ever, thoughtful public policy is the key to transforming the way our country addresses sexual violence. We will build coalitions and launch strategic efforts to enact survivor-informed change across the country, protect vulnerable populations from sexual abuse, and ensure all survivors have access to critical care and services.

RAINN owes our current progress to the generosity of our early campaign supporters, without whom this work would not be possible. Once fully-funded, these initiatives will transform the lives of survivors.
