In February of 2022, Jessalyn Keeble, then age 4, was mistreated at Little Steps Daycare, locked in a small dark room while staffers held the door shut for over ten minutes.

Video evidence from the Daycare cameras showing the entire incident was discovered and shown to Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Council members. Enemy Swim Councilman Dallas Owen then made a motion to suspend Secretary Thompson pending a removal hearing. Only three Tribal Councilpeople voted to suspend the Tribal Secretary.

The SWO Watchdog Coalition is hosting a protest on August 23, 2022 at the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Headquarters in Agency Village South Dakota at 9 a.m. Secretary Thompson’s removal hearing begins at 10 a.m. We are asking for justice for Jessalyn! She has been traumatized by the mistreatment by staff at the Little Steps Daycare and needs the support of the people to let Tribal Council know that this kind of treatment of one of our littlest tribal members will not be tolerated!
