News Release

One Country Project

Heidi Heitkamp, Founding Board Member of the One Country Project, issued the following statement after the initial results of the 2020 election were announced.

“One Country Project congratulates President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their 2020 electoral victory. As expected, the presidential race came down to the key battleground states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. President-elect Biden’s outreach to diverse communities across these states was key to his success, and continued outreach to and investment in these communities across the country, especially in rural states, is imperative to Democratic success in the future.

“While President-elect Biden has won the battle for the soul of the nation, it is clear Democrats need to engage with and reach out to rural voters to gain control of the Senate in 2022, widen the majority for Democrats in the House of Representatives, and fill state legislatures across the country. President-elect Biden will be a president for all Americans, and I know he will listen to the unique concerns and perspectives of rural communities in a genuine effort to unite our country. He will bring honesty, compassion, and decency back to the heart of American government, and together we can ensure that rural and urban voters alike have equal opportunity to thrive in the United States.
