Navajo Nation Council Town Hall meetings rescheduled for Navajo Generating Station-Navajo Transitional Energy Company acquisition discussions
24th Navajo Nation Council - Office of the Speaker
The Office of the Speaker of the 24th Navajo Nation Council has rescheduled its town hall meetings regarding the potential acquisition of the Navajo Generating Station (NGS) by the Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC).
Council Speaker Seth Damon (Bááháálí, Chichiltah, Manuelito, Tsé Lichíí’, Rock Springs, Tsayatoh) organized the following town halls to hear from Navajo citizens who may be affected by the potential acquisition.
- Hardrock Chapter House on Friday, March 8th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Kayenta Township Commission on Saturday, March 9th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
While both events are open to the public, the Office of the Speaker has chosen the Hardrock location for its proximity to members of the Dził Yijiin communities affected by the Peabody Kayenta Mine.
Correspondingly, the Office of the Speaker has chosen the Kayenta location for its proximity to the large concentrations of Navajo Generating Station and Peabody workers.
“Please bring constructive thoughts on this important topic affecting the future of the Navajo Nation and be prepared to share them with Navajo leadership,” Speaker Damon requests. “It is critical to hear from the grassroots and the families affected by this decision.”
The town halls previously scheduled for February 23 and 24 were postponed due to inclement weather across the Navajo Nation.
