News Release

24th Navajo Nation Council

Yesterday, Hon. Speaker Seth Damon (Bááhaalí, Chichiltah, Manuelito, Red Rock, Rock Springs, Tséyatoh) and the 24th Navajo Nation Council wish the Navajo people a happy Native American Heritage Month this November. Additionally, Speaker Damon encourages all to respectfully observe November 25, 2022 as Native American Heritage Day.

“Throughout the country, millions of Indigenous peoples and nations celebrate the determination and resiliency that has carried us through the generations despite the history that lingers,” said Speaker Damon. “I urge all Americans to acknowledge the rich history of this country and the numerous Indigenous communities who are the original caretakers of this land.”

This year, U.S. President Joe Biden issued a proclamation on the civil holiday and urged all Americans and elected representatives to join in the celebrations. The proclamation acknowledged the centuries-long wrongdoings committed against the Indigenous population such as broken treaties, dispossession of ancestral lands, and assimilation policies.
