Guests of Mystic Lake Casino Hotel have donated more than $215,000 to local organizations through Mystic Lake’s Change for the Better program, which began in June of 2017.
Through Change for the Better, Mystic Lake guests can choose to donate to a pre-selected organization when redeeming a slot machine payout ticket. For example, if a guest has a ticket for $11.14 to redeem, the machine allows the guest the option of donating the $0.14 to the selected organization. Recipient organizations typically rotate twice a month.
“The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Mystic Lake have a strong tradition of helping others, and we are thankful for our incredible patrons who help make Change for the Better a success,” said Alison Fogarty, vice president of marketing for Mystic Lake Casino Hotel. “Based on the success of the first year, we are excited to continue offering Change for the Better well into the future.”
In the month of October 2017 alone, guests raised more than $17,500 to support seven different cancer organizations as part of the NFL and American Cancer Society’s Crucial Catch initiative. Other top recipients thus far have included the Minnesota Military Family Foundation ($13,241), the Minnesota Prostate Cancer Coalition ($12,458), and Second Harvest Heartland ($10,964).
“Mystic Lake’s Change for the Better program is appropriately named,” said Jennifer Hjelle, executive director of The ALS Association’s Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Chapter. “Thanks to the generosity of Mystic Lake guests, our organization will be able to offer additional support to families in our region facing the daily challenges of ALS. These dollars will go a long way by providing things like durable medical equipment, speech generating devices and smart home products that will increase independence and safety for individuals living with the disease. We’re so grateful to have been chosen as a recipient for this program.”
The ALS Association’s Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Chapter was a recipient of the program in May. The association’s Vice President of Development Ryan Stauff received a check for $8,814.
This month’s recipients of the Change for the Better program are Special Olympics Minnesota and Open Arms of Minnesota. To learn more about the program, visit mysticlake.com/make-a-donation.
