Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Nation

The Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Division of Drug Enforcement’s K9 Teams were invited to compete in the 23rd Annual American Working Dogs (AWD) K9 Olympics held August 21–26, 2022 in Denver, Indiana at Vohne Liche Kennels.

K9 Teams from various Law Enforcement and Public Safety Agencies across the United States and other countries from around the world competed in the following Patrol and/or Detection Events as part of the K9 Olympics. K9 Handlers also participated in various Training Seminars and Certification Trials.

K9 Patrol Events: Area Search, Building Search, Control, Hogans Alley, Obedience, Tracking, Obstacle Course. K9 Detection Events: Building Detection, Luggage, Open Area, Road Clear, Scramble, Exterior Vehicle, Interior Vehicle, Warehouse, Residential.

Out of 150 K9 Teams competing, Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Drug Enforcement had two K9 Teams place high in two events. Patrol Agent Nate Miller and K9 Broder placed 1st in the Narcotics Residential Event. Patrol Agent Britney Larvie and K-9 Riki placed 2nd in the Narcotics Vehicle Exterior Event. 

Other Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Drug Enforcement K9 Patrol Units who competed in multiple events this year were Patrol Agent Coby Janis with K9 Metin, Patrol Agent Joshua Pastir with K9 Zorro, and Patrol Agent Joseph Larvie, Jr. with K9 Roxo. This is the second year competing at the K9 Olympics for MHA Drug Enforcement’s K9 Teams. In 2021, Patrol Agent Pastir with K9 Zorro placed 2nd in the Narcotics Building Search Event.

Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Drug Enforcement Deputy Chief Jeff White as a K9 Trainer was invited as a Judge for the Explosives Detection Events. Deputy Chief White has been an event judge at the K9 Olympics for the last 3 years.

“Highly trained law enforcement dogs are instrumental to suspect apprehension, locating missing individuals by tracking, detection of narcotics, and detection of other potentially harmful devices and substances. Our Patrol Agents are dedicated to training with their dogs consistently and expanding their skillsets as a team. All of our K9 Teams did an outstanding job and are a credit to the Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Nation,” Deputy Chief White.

Current Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Division of Drug Enforcement Patrol K9’s: 

  • K9 Riki is a 7 year-old Belgian Malinois trained out of Vohne Liche Kennels. Riki is a single purpose K9 specializing in Narcotics Detection, Tracking, and Human Remains Detection. Riki joined his handler Patrol Agent Larvie at MHA Drug Enforcement in January 2018.

  • K9 Roxo is a 4 year-old Belgian Malinois trained out of Vohne Liche Kennels. Roxo is a single purpose K9 specializing in Narcotics Detection and Tracking. Roxo joined his handler Patrol Agent Larvie, Jr. at MHA Drug Enforcement in October 2019.
  • K9 Jackie is a 6 year-old Belgian Malinois trained out of Vohne Liche Kennels. Jackie is a dual purpose K9 specializing in Explosives Detection, Tracking, and Protection. Jackie joined her handler Lead Patrol Agent Brummett at MHA Drug Enforcement in October 2018.
  • K9 F’Bope is a 8 year-old Belgian Malinois trained out of Vohne Liche Kennels. F’Bope is a single purpose K9 specializing in Narcotics Detection and Tracking. F’Bope joined his handler Lead Patrol Agent Brummett at MHA Drug Enforcement in June 2016.
  • K9 Charlie is a 8 year-old Belgian Malinois trained out of Vohne Liche Kennels. Charlie is a single purpose K9 specializing in Explosives/Gun Detection and Tracking. Charlie joined his handler Deputy Chief White at MHA Drug Enforcement in June 2016.
  • K9 Tom is a 8 year-old Belgian Malinois trained out of Vohne Liche Kennels. Tom is a single purpose K9 specializing in Narcotics Detection and Tracking. Tom joined his handler Deputy Chief White at MHA Drug Enforcement in July 2015. 

Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Division of Drug Enforcement Mission Statement

The primary mission of Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Division of Drug Enforcement (MHA-DDE) is to investigate, arrest, successfully prosecute and thus dismantle all narcotics trafficking/criminal enterprise/human trafficking organizations involved in the manufacturing, transportation, distribution, selling and use of all illegal drugs and/or the victimization of persons on or throughout the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. Seizure of illegal drugs, cash and other assets associated with and supportive of the illicit drug trade; and to investigate, arrest, successfully prosecute, and dismantle all human trafficking and money laundering efforts which support these and other illegal activities.
