LA Skins Fest


After a dozen years in existence, LA SKINS FEST has unveiled its first-ever NATIVE AMERICAN FEATURE FILM WRITERS LAB. The feature film lab is an intensive scriptwriters workshop that prepares Native Americans for writing careers at major film studios and production companies. The inaugural program is supported by COMCAST NBCUniversal, The Walt Disney Company, HBO and Turner.

The overall goal of the lab is for the Native writer participants to garner the skills necessary to obtain employment as writers in the industry. The NATIVE AMERICAN FEATURE FILM WRITERS LAB consists of the selected participants meeting five days a week for ten weeks in Los Angeles, receiving instruction from professional writers and learning about the feature film industry. Selected scripts from the lab will have a staged reading at the 12th Annual LA SKINS FEST in Hollywood, CA during November.

The NATIVE AMERICAN FEATURE FILM WRITERS LAB takes place in August to October of 2018 in Los Angeles.

Attention Native Musicians, Native Bands, and Native Performers! The 8th Annual L.A. SKINS MUSIC FEST is looking for Native musicians. Deadline to submit is July 6th, 2018. Selected musicians will be eligible to perform at the 2018 Native American Media Awards in November.

The 8th Annual L.A. SKINS MUSIC FEST takes August 4th, 2018 at the Sycamore Grove Park in Elysian Park, CA.

The music festival will bring an amazing collection of Indigenous music talent to Los Angeles. The concert will feature contemporary Native American music such as pop, jazz, rock and R&B. The music fest is a dynamic collection of Native American musical talent never before seen in Los Angeles.

Preceding the concert is our Native American Youth Talent Showcase. This endeavor is designed to encourage Native American youth to explore the performing arts and pursue higher education. Youth are able to showcase their talents to the community and receive an award for their efforts. The overall goal of the project is to encourage music exploration, celebrate the performing arts and raise the awareness of young Native American musicians.

Application packets are due July 6th. Submission is open to all ages.

The LA SKINS FEST, presented by COMCAST NBCUniversal, announced today that they are now officially accepting film entries for their 12th Annual film festival taking place November 13th-18th, 2017 at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

The LA SKINS FEST will celebrate filmmakers whose original works are distinguished and offer a new voice in cinema. Films accepted in the festival will be eligible for the competition, distribution opportunities and prizes from our corporate sponsors. This year, awards will be given to the following categories: Achievement in Narrative Filmmaking, Documentary, Narrative Short, Documentary Short, Animation, Writer, Director, Actor, Actress and Audience Award.
