Joe Biden denounces Donald Trump’s efforts to sabotage Open Enrollment
Joe Biden for President
Today, as part of Biden for President’s campaign to draw attention to Donald Trump’s most vicious efforts to deny health care access to millions of Americans, Vice President Joe Biden released the following statement about Trump’s attempts to sabotage open enrollment:
“Donald Trump is not only trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act, but he is actively trying to prevent hardworking Americans from getting the health insurance they already qualify for.
“President Obama and I created the Affordable Care Act marketplace to expand access to health insurance and help cover more than 20 million additional Americans. Key to Obamacare’s success was a year-over-year unprecedented effort to inform people about their new health insurance options and the open enrollment period when they could sign up for a health plan. We did everything in our power to get people signed up for health insurance — from community outreach to advertisements to call centers — so that hardworking families knew their options and were empowered to enroll in coverage.
“Yet, Trump has spent his time in office doing everything he can to make sure people don’t know when and how to sign up for health insurance. He cut outreach programs that help people sign up. He cut the advertising that promotes enrollment by 90%. At every turn, he has made it harder for Americans to get the health care they need and deserve. Period.
“And his actions have serious, real-life consequences. For the first time in nearly a decade, the uninsurance rate has actually risen — in part because he is sabotaging efforts to make sure Americans know about their options and how to enroll in coverage — and making hardworking families pay the price as it drives up premiums.
“We need to build on Obamacare to give more people health care coverage, not tear it down.”
This week, Biden for President launched a campaign to blast Trump for his relentless attempts to deny health care coverage to millions of Americans, asking Americans to join Joe Biden’s petition telling Trump to keep his hands off their health care and releasing new products to underscore Biden’s message.
Biden has laid out a detailed plan to protect and build on the Affordable Care Act by giving Americans more choice, reducing health care costs, and making our health care system less complex to navigate. The Biden Plan will create a new public health insurance option so that every American has access to high quality, affordable health care coverage.
