Governor Bill Richardson will visit the Navajo Nation on Thursday, January 20, 2022 to deliver 100 pairs of athletic shoes to children from Crownpoint, New Mexico. The Governor Bill Richardson/Peterson Zah COVID-19 Navajo Families Relief Fund partnered with the Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3) to purchase the shoes at a 50 percent discount.

Governor Bill Richardson and Cherokee Nation officials will visit Navajo Technical University and Crownpoint Elementary School on Thursday, January 20, 2022 to deliver 100 pairs of quality athletic shoes to students from Crownpoint Elementary. In addition, the fund purchased 100 pairs of shoes for students at Lake Valley Navajo School nearby. The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is a major donor to the project.

During 2020-21, the fund distributed personal protective equipment, food, water, diapers, dog food and emergency supplies to help Navajo Nation citizens. The fund donated medical supplies to eight Navajo Nation hospitals, provided burial assistance and funded a physician’s salary at Rehoboth Hospital. We partnered with Nike, Inc. and Notah Begay III Foundation for a 50% discount on Nike shoes and delivered more than 800 pairs to low-income youth.

ADDITIONAL INFO: As a longtime supporter of the Navajo people, Governor Bill Richardson established the Governor Richardson/Peterson Zah COVID-19 Navajo Families Relief Fund in April of 2020 to aid with essential supplies and equipment to the Navajo Nation to fight the coronavirus pandemic. The fund has provided shoes for more than 800 students so far.
