Haaland says Biden supports progressive plans and has dedicated his entire career to things she has also fought for

News Release

Biden for President

Yesterday, New Mexico Congresswoman Deb Haaland and California Congresswoman Katie Porter announced their endorsement of Joe Biden. Both Haaland and Porter were formerly national co-chairs of Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign.

“Over the course of my career I’ve fought for universal healthcare, raises to the minimum wage, and affordable housing,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland of New Mexico. “It’s why I joined Elizabeth Warren’s campaign as a national co-chair. For Elizabeth I criss-crossed the country talking to Americans about what they need most. That’s why I’m proud to announce that I’m endorsing Joe Biden for President. Joe Biden supports progressive plans, like tuition-free college and fixing our nation's bankruptcy system, and he’s dedicated his entire career to things I also have fought for. In 2012 we shared the same boss, fighting for working families and underrepresented communities. I’ll never forget that early on Vice President Biden wholeheartedly supported marriage equality -- bringing President Obama along with him -- and that meant the world to me. It’s so important that we unite as Democrats, with one goal, to beat Donald Trump. We’ve seen the damage brought by four years of failed leadership. Today I ask all of you to come together as one people, to gather our energy and strength around Joe Biden, so we can win this election and move our Democratic values and country forward. Please join me in supporting Joe Biden for President.”

“I’m absolutely ready to endorse Joe Biden and delighted to do so,” said Congresswoman Katie Parter of California. “I’m really honored he’s embraced some of the policies that Elizabeth Warren made key platforms, particularly his commitment to fighting money in politics. This is someone as far back as 1973 was calling to get private money and dark money out of politics. I’m honored to endorse him and look forward to continue to hear his voice during this very scary time for this country. It’s important for Americans to have examples of what leadership looks like right now -effective, honest, trusted leadership looks like and that’s what Joe Biden is.”

Biden for President has previously announced more than 2,500 endorsements from national, state, and local leaders, including current and former U.S. senators and representatives, governors, state elected officials, community leaders, and national security professionals.
