Arizona Senate Democrats

The Senate Democratic caucus is thrilled to welcome Theresa Hatathlie as the new state senator for LD7 after her swearing in ceremony yesterday.

“As a Diné woman who grew up without running water or electricity I never imagined I would one day serve my people in the Arizona Senate as the new LD7 Senator. I am so honored and grateful to have been appointed, taking on the mantle of former Senator Jamescita Peshlakai. Her legacy of fighting for Indigenous people is one I am ready and glad to continue.”

“Senator Theresa Hatathlie has already dedicated herself to a life of service to Arizona and her people in many roles, such as running the Navajo and Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief Fund which has been a lifeline for many, said Senate Democratic Leader Rebecca Rios. "I have no doubt she will bring the same dedication and passion as her predecessor to our caucus and we’re excited to work alongside her in the 2022 legislative session.”

A lifelong resident of Coalmine Mesa, Hatathlie currently serves as the logistics coordinator for Yee Ha’oìlniìi Doo Navajo and Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief Fund. She previously was human resources director of the Tuba City Unified School District and represented the Western Navajo Agency of the Navajo Nation as a Board of Regent for Dineì College.
