Natives in television has been a major headline this year. Peacock TV’s “Rutherford Falls” and FX/ Hulu’s “Reservation Dogs” featured productions that included Indigenous writers, directors and actors.
Jana Schmieding, Sicangu Lakota, plays the lead of Reagan on Peacock TV’s “Rutherford Falls.” She also appeared in episode two of Hulu’s “Reservation Dogs.” She joins us to talk about her experience working on both shows and her views on Indigenous visibility in Hollywood.
The Western part of the United States is once again facing deadly wildfires. The Jack Fire in Oregon started on July 5 and is still burning. It is estimated to only be 51 percent contained.
The human-caused fire has burned 24,000 acres on Umpqua National Forest land. KLCC reporter Brian Bull, Nez Perce, joins us with an update on this fire — and the estimated 40 new fires burning nearby.

- Results from Census 2020 are in and it shows a large increase in the population of American Indians and Alaska Natives, they now represent nearly three-percent of the U.S. population.
- The National Urban Indian Family Coalition is launching it’s Thriving Cities Initiative speaking series.
- Women make up half of the college educated workforce but only 28 percent of them go into science and engineering.
- Jonathan Windy Boy, a legendary Chippewa Cree grass dancer, is being inducted into the Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame.
