From ‘the Greatest Generation,’ a Pueblo man shares his own memories

Jose Ramos Chavez, Kewa Pueblo, sat in his room with a blanket over his lap with a huge smile on his face. Behind his bed hangs a large blanket a relative made with yellow words reading, “Pvt. Jose Ramos Chavez, World War II Veteran, U.S. Army.”

Across from his bed and next to the TV, where he later watched a black-and-white movie, hangs photos from his days in the military, with his parents, and medals he received, including the Purple Heart.

He and his granddaughter, Wynema Chavez Quintana, talk about his journey for this week's Veterans Day.
