Today in Sioux City, Iowa, Democratic presidential candidates will face a panel including Native tribal leaders, tribal members, and Native youth and will answer questions related to issues facing Indian Country in the nation's first Native American Presidential Forum.

The Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum will be moderated by Indian Country Today's editor Mark Trahant, Shoshone Bannock.

Indian Country Today's Executive Producer Patty Talahongva, Hopi, said the event was significant because Indian Country issues were being brought into the presidential discussion.

"This is exciting but it is also hugely important because the candidates will be asked questions from a Native perspective to include such issues as healthcare, Medicaid, or even how foreign policy might affect Indian Country. Our own Mark Trahnt will be moderating the discussion and the questions will be coming from tribal leaders as well as youth. Many in Indian Country realize just how important it is to hear from the voices of our youth."
