It’s a familiar story for Indigenous groups around the world — communities whose often centuries-long tenure of forests and other valuable ecosystems have gone unrecognized by their respective governments. A new report by the U.S.-based think tank World Resources Institute shows that indigenous peoples face an uphill struggle navigating extremely complex, costly and time-consuming processes in getting their land rights recognized.
