Day two of the Frank LaMere Presidential Forum kicked off with former Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak. The three-star admiral was the fifth candidate to speak at the presidential forum.
Sestak was asked about the Indian Child Welfare Act, Natve veterans, and the 2020 Census among other topics. He admitted to being unaware of the high rate of suicides in Indian Country.
The mostly Native audience gave Mark Charles a warm welcome. He’s Diné and is running as an Independent candidate for president,
Charles not only participated in the forum, but he took the opportunity to listen to candidates on day one and told Indian Country Today that he was frustrated with their responses.
Reporters Aliyah Chavez spoke with Sestak and Washington Editor Jourdan Bennett-Begaye spoke to Charles.
