Taboo, Will.i.am and Apl.De.Ap recite extended lyrical verses in a six-minute revolutionary and social activist militant-themed video, that questions the power of the internet.
The Black Eyed Peas have made another socially-conscious contribution to the music world with a new video titled Ring the Alarm pt.1, pt.2, pt.3. The video, which features lyrical segments with Taboo, Will.i.am and Apl.De.Ap, cites a call to action against oppressive forces.
The video contains a plethora of images and messages that cover a revolutionary theme. In addition to the members of the group, It is unclear who the woman is in the video that raps, as her face is bound by black bandages.
The video opens with Will.i.am explicitly describing the internet as ‘the brand new conqueror.”
He then recites the following:
Whoever controls the data got the answers
They the ones that got the code to the launcher
And they be having dinner with the Pope and the mobsters
They know the cure for cancer
Cure for the AIDS and they probably killed the Panthers
Taboo, Mexican and Shoshone, later follows up a message of empowerment that is also laced with reality:
A wise man said knowledge is king
Know thyself and you can do anything
Know thyself and you can shine like bling
Know thyself and you the king of the ring
But they don’t teach kids nothin’
All they know is iPad’s, sugar and their muffins
They don’t know division, don’t add to nothin’
Send them off to prison when you know they did nothin’
In addition to the release of the video, the Black Eyed Peas have announced “sugar” credits on their website, which fans cans rack up by taking action. The sugar currency can be used toward Black Eyed Peas tickets, merchandise and more.
