Alaska Pacific University (APU) is pleased to announce the recipient of this year’s Honorary Doctorate Award: Dimitri Philemonof. The Doctorate Degree honoris causa, in Health and Public Service, will be conferred upon Mr. Philemonof.

“Dimitri was a natural choice for this award. His impact on the local, state and federal level over the last 40 years has been invaluable,” said Alaska Pacific University President Bob Onders. “We are pleased to recognize his contributions to Alaska and its people.”

Dimitri is Unangax̂/Aleut originally from the beautiful Pribilof Island in the middle of the Bering Sea - Saint George Island. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association (APIA) and to date, has dedicated over 40 years of humanitarian service towards holistic health and wellness of the Unangax̂/Aleut people.

"Mr. Philemonof’s leadership is reflective of his commitment ensuring that future generations will prosper through promoting economic development, social services, health and safety and preserving the Unangax language and cultural heritage,” recalls Board of Trustee Dr. Tina Woods.

The Honorary Doctorate Award ceremony will take place during Alaska Pacific University’s Spring Commencement on April 27, 2019, Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium at 2533 Providence Drive on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus.
