The power of place: Giving voice to the region and its people
American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association
Sherry L. Rupert, American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association CEO moderates this all-star panel that discusses how tribes can benefit from American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association’s unique partnership with the National Park Service, and also features insights from celebrated visionary Johnpaul Jones, who shares his experience in incorporating Native Values in modern architectural design.
While much has been written about European expansion into Western North America, far less has been chronicled about the Native American communities that continuously inhabited California and Arizona long before the route became known as the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail.
Naomi Torres, Superintendent for the Anza Trail, will share the partnership underway with American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association. This unique partnership will result in educational webinars, a print/online guidebook highlighting tribal tourism attractions along the trail and a custom map featuring the original native names for key locations along the trail.
Celebrated architect Johnpaul Jones (Oklahoma Choctaw/Cherokee), the visionary behind such projects as the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian (Washington D.C.), the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum (Palm Springs, Calif.) and the Santa Ynez Chumash Cultural Center and Museum (Santa Ynez, Calif.).
Join the National Park Service, Jones & Jones and American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association to learn how to to develop attractions that reflect tribal cultures.
