Seen on social media wearing the latest cowboy boots, leather pants, western fringed shirts, a smart blue ascot, or any other chic, contemporary styles, Christian Allaire is Vogue Magazine’s most fashionable Ojibwe.

Allaire is currently the fashion and style writer at Vogue in New York City.

Allaire is also First Nations, or Ojibwe, who grew up on the Nipissing First Nation reserve in Ontario, Canada. After earning a bachelor of journalism degree from Ryerson University in 2014, Allaire then moved to New York to begin a writing career, initially as a fashion editor at Footwear News, a position lasting more than three years. After freelancing for such publications as Vogue, Elle, Mr. Porter, Hazlitt, Refinery 29 and more, Allaire got the gig at Vogue.

In addition to reporting the latest fashionable exploits of such Hollywood icons as Madonna, Justin Bieber or Kylie Jenner, Allaire also does a considerable job of including a plethora of Native fashion-themed news.

Social media

Here are a few social media posts by Allaire, considering the theme of fashion, we figured each photo was indeed worth a fashionably impressive (much more than) one thousand words.

We think you wore it best Christian.

Allaire shared thoughts on being #NativeIn2019.

“Being a #Nativein2019 is being able to embrace our heritage in both traditional and unconventional ways. It's about sharing our stories through modern mediums such as fashion, art, film, poetry—all with the common goal of educating others and keeping our culture alive.“

About Native American Heritage Month and Native American Heritage Day

President George H.W. Bush signed a joint resolution in 1990 designating November as Native American Heritage Month. Each year the president has proclaimed the day after Thanksgiving as Native American Heritage Day.
