Position Summary:

The incumbent is responsible for the support and customization of the multi-service Resource Patient Management System (RPMS), Electronic Health Record (EHR), and NextGen Software packages that automate the capture of clinical encounter information and its subsequent retrieval. The incumbent periodically reviews site parameters and local tables with each department for accuracy and completeness. The incumbent supports the implementation of new Indian Health Service (IHS) applications.


· Creates a positive environment for reporting application and/or system deficiencies and suggestions for system improvements and enhanced functionality. Promotes an awareness of the importance of data validity. Participates in efforts to correct deficiencies and errors that occur in the electronic records, and reports deficiencies and errors to the IT Manager.

· Provides RPMS, EHR, and NextGen training to all departments on current applications, new features, and insures training is scheduled for new users. Emphasizes timeliness, accuracy, and the importance of these functions. Co-ordinates classes with IT Manager and serves as backup for basic training classes. Organizes and/or provides training in standardized reports and in the creation of custom templates for ad hoc reporting utilities. Acts as a resource in the best ways to view the automated data.

· Works with the IT Manager/RPMS Site Manager to implement integrated packages, resolve conflicts, provide secondary support on related software modules, and insure smooth operations in areas where package scope overlaps or is integrated with other services' functions. Works with programmers in local testing of software, identifying IHS and NextGen software problems and requesting enhancements.

· Work as a backup to the IT manager and supporting the Tribal Health Centers information technology/computer systems. The Database Administrator will be responsible for helping, support the development, setup and implementation of all aspects of the Indian Health Service EHR, RPMS, and NextGen.

· Work with the IT/Site Manager to help with implementation of Vista

Imaging for Radiology and Dental Imagery

· Resolve problems with information and communication systems for users.

· Develop training materials and procedures, and/or trains users in the proper use of EHR, RPMS, and NextGen through formal or informal means.

· Installs and performs repairs to hardware, software and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.

· Configures EHR and NextGen software for internal users.

· Flexibility to work off-hours to facilitate patches and upgrades.

· Work with Active Directory, other system support requirements.

· Monthly Reporting as needed

· Assist Staff in use of Electronic Medical Records.

· Work within the Shortel Phone System when needed.

· Work as backup Network Administrator in the IT Division when needed

· Performs daily backups and disaster recover as needed.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Associates of Arts (AA) Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science and/or 2+ years of direct experience with databases. Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records, lCD, and SQL. Knowledge of HIPAA, clinical software, and understanding of active directory and software backups.

· Certifications in Database Administration preferred.

· Minimum of one (1) year experience with network and hardware configuration in an enterprise environment.
