Kirk Francis, Sr.

Kirk Francis is chief of the Penobscot Indian Nation, a member nation of the Wabanaki Confederacy. He has served as chief since 2006 and holds the distinction of being the longest serving chief of the Penobscot Nation, which has a tribal electoral system that began in 1850. Francis was born and raised within his Penobscot Indian Nation homelands and he has deep cultural ties to the people, the land and the river. He is also president of the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) Sovereignty Protection Fund.
