The South Dakota band Indigenous has been nominated to play at the Kennedy Center Freedom Stage in Washington, D.C., this summer. Senators Tim Johnson and Tom Daschle made the nomination. Indigenous has won five Native American Music Awards in the last three years, including Group of the Year and Best Blues Recording at the 2000 awards. They have also received special recognition from the Los Angeles Music Awards, which presented them the Grace Note Award for the numerous benefits they play. The band is composed of three siblings and a cousin - all tribal members.
