Woman in Texas Claims Grandson Killed Legendary Chupacabra
Indian Country Today
āMy grandson ran and got a gun, and shot it at 250 yards,ā Lucy Ohrt told KAVU. āAnd my grandchildren said āOh, thatās a chupacabraā.ā
Chupacabra means āgoat suckerā in Spanish, and according to legend, the creature sucks the blood of livestock.
āIāve heard people say that theyāve gotten young calves, but they never gotten one of ours.ā Ohrt said. āItās got long hair on it and this one does not have any hair and thatās what makes it different from a regular coyote.ā
Scientists say there is no such animal, that the chupacabra is a myth, a made-up creature.
Josh Turner a wildlife biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife says that as far as he knows, they donāt exist. He thinks the mysterious animal is nothing more than a wild animal with mange.
āThereās a mythical creature that most people see,ā Turner told CNN. āBut what it really is is Sarcoptic mange, which is caused by a mite that bites the animal, and it can be pretty much on any mammal.ā

The Daily News reported that the legendary creature, sometimes called the āBigfoot of Latin culture,ā has a vicious reputation. A cross between a dog and a wolf, the chupacabra is said to target livestock, killing animals and ripping them limb from limb.
This is not the first time ranchers say that theyāve seen what they believe is a chupacabra. In 2010, there was a sighting on a ranch near San Antonio, and similar stories were reported in South Florida in 1996.
āIām scared theyāre going to get my dogs,ā Ohrt said after showing the animal to the camera.
