WinStar World Golf Championship to benefit local youth program

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – The upcoming 2009 WinStar World Casino Golf Championship, to be held May 11 – 16, will give local golfers an opportunity to hit the links with future PGA players, all while benefiting an area children’s program.

The championship, which is an official event on the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series, features a Pro-am tournament that kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12 at WinStar Golf Course near Thackerville. The Pro-am is limited to 32 teams, which will consist of one professional and four amateurs. Deadline to add a team is Friday, May 8.

Every golfer in the Pro-am has a chance to shoot a $1 million hole-in-one. Proceeds from the WinStar World Casino Golf Championship benefit the Chickasaw Nation Boys & Girls Clubs.

The Chickasaw Nation Boys & Girls Club, Inc. is part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Clubs are located in Chickasha, Sulphur and Tishomingo, Okla.

Each year, hundreds of school-aged children benefit from the club’s after-school and summer programs.

Established in Tishomingo in 1998, the Chickasaw Nation Boys and Girls Club offers youth programs in character, leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, arts, sports, fitness and recreation.

The Chickasaw Nation Boys & Girls Club’s mission is to promote and enhance the character development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and power through life-enhancing programs.

Several Boys & Girls Club members will be participating in a junior golf clinic at WinStar Monday, May 11 in conjunction with the championship.

The Adams Pro Tour Tournament will be conducted Wednesday through Saturday, May 13 – 16.

The open will be a 54-hole event and boasts a $100,000 purse with $20,000 going to the tournament champion.

More than 100 professional golfers are expected to compete at WinStar Golf Course.

The Adams Golf Pro Tour Series provides an avenue for professional golfers to hone their skills while preparing for a life on the PGA Tour. The AGPTS has successfully graduated several players to the PGA Tour.
