Carey Price’s dogs are back home, and it’s all due to his wife’s quick thinking and a fan who happened to be listening to the radio.
Late Sunday night, the Montreal Canadien goaltender’s two Labrador retrievers went missing near his home in Candiac, which is a suburb south of Montreal. The next morning, Price’s wife quickly took to Twitter and reported the missing dogs.

Both dogs – Motty (“short for Mozart”) and Duke – were found by fan John Mastromonaco, who was listening to TSN 690 in Montreal when he left his house around 6:15 a.m. Monday and heard about the missing dogs, the Associated Press reported.
“Almost at the same time, I see this jogger with two Labradors following him, but the dogs didn’t look like they were with him,” Mastromonaco told The Canadian Press.
After inquiring with the jogger, Mastromonaco concluded the pair were Price’s lost dogs. He reportedly attempted to contact the radio station to no avail. Mastromonaco then called the number on one of the dog’s tags and got ahold of Price’s wife.
She gave him directions to the couple’s home, and when he arrived the goaltender answered the door and gave Mastromonaco an autographed stick.
“He just said, ‘Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Here’s a stick,’” Mastromonaco said. “I said, ‘Thank you very much,’ and said, ‘Good luck on Tuesday.’”
Price, who is Ulkatcho First Nation, said he was waking up when the dogs were returned.
“We didn’t chat a lot,” he said. “I was kind of groggy. ... I was still trying to sleep. I probably didn’t go to sleep until about 2. I woke up. I was like, ‘Ugh.’ Threw my bathrobe on. I was probably quite the sight to see."
Price said this isn't the first time his dogs have escaped.
“I was preoccupied and they snuck out the garage doors,” he said. “It’s not the first time and it’s probably not the last time.”
Price admitted it was his wife’s idea and not his to report the lost dogs on his Twitter page.
“It was actually a good idea. She’s smarter than me,” he said.
“I think it’s good karma because I picked up a dog four or five months ago and returned it to the owner. What goes around, comes around.”
