Wampanoag swear in new court's justices

One by one, the judges raised their right hands, taking an oath to promote, protect, uphold and enforce tribal law. Then, with a hearty handshake and a smile, the traditional leader of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe offered his blessing to the head of a new branch of government. "I'd like to present my congratulations to you," Chief Vernon Lopez, his hair in his signature braids, told Chief Justice Henry Sockbeson. "Welcome to our tribe."
