LAVEEN, Ariz. – Gila River’s Vee Quiva Casino awarded a $1.1 million MegaJackpot to a lucky winner July 2.
The winner, who asked to remain anonymous said he is a regular visitor to the casino, but this was the first time he had played the winning $1 machine. After investing only $20, the MegaJackpot winner said he was surprised to learn he had won the top progressive prize.
“I didn’t realize I had won and was stunned.” The new millionaire was excited to share news of his win with his wife who was equally stunned. “She said ‘I don’t believe you,’” the winner reported. When asked about his immediate plans, he said the first order of business will be to buy a house.
The July 2 MegaJackpot is the fourth to be paid at the casino this year, and the second to hit in five days. On June 26, the casino awarded a $199,558 Wheel of Fortune MegaJackpot on a quarter machine. Back to back payouts are nothing new to Vee Quiva Casino as a similar run occurred earlier this year. On Jan. 9, the casino paid a $282,708 MegaJackpot which was followed by a $112,915 payout just two weeks later on Jan. 23.
The Vee Quiva Casino has now paid 22 MegaJackpot prizes since 1998 totaling more than $12.3 million. The most recent payout is the fifth MegaJackpot over $1 million to be awarded at the casino. The two largest payouts at Vee Quiva, a $1.7 million and $1.6 million prize, were also paid on the Wheel of Fortune dollars progressive system.

Vee Quiva Casino along with sister properties Wild Horse Pass and Lone Butte, both located in Chandler, Ariz., have now awarded more than $41.6 million in MegaJackpot prizes on a variety of IGT progressive gaming systems. All three Gila River Casinos belong to a Native American progressive gaming network which includes nearly two dozen tribal casinos statewide. Each time a coin is played in a linked machine, anywhere in the network the jackpot accumulates until some lucky winner hits the top jackpot award.
The Wheel of Fortune $1 progressive has a starting jackpot of $300,000 and features an exciting bonus spin that has come to be one of the favorite facets of the game for players and fans alike. In order to win the MegaJackpot, a player bets $3 at a time while attempting to line up the Wheel of Fortune symbols on the machine’s payline.
