This Monday, while on a seven-day Caribbean cruise, celebrity chef Paula Deen was caught chowing down on a cheeseburger and fries. The star of the Food Network show Paula’s Home Cooking was hosting her annual Party at Sea vacation for 400 fans, reported TMZ.
Last week, the 65-year-old chef announced on the Today Show that she has type 2 diabetes and has known for three years. Deen's announcement was timed with a plug for her new role as the paid spokeswoman for the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk and the launch of her new website “Diabetes in a New Light” in partnership with the drug company.
Deen also took the opportunity to promote her son Bobby Deen's new show on the Cooking Channel Not My Mama’s Meals, in which he offers healthier recipes for his mother’s famous, indulgent southern cuisine.
Deen has claimed she eats healthy food when not cooking butter-heavy chicken pot pies and burgers sandwiched between doughnuts on her TV show. “You know, people see me on TV two to three times a day, and they see me cooking all these wonderfully southern, fattening dishes, and that’s only 30 days out of 365. It’s for entertainment. People have to be responsible.”
Deen's cruise ship departed Miami on Saturday, and will make stops in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Maarten.
