Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt is getting a $200,000 grant to train people in hazardous waste cleanup. The money is from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Trainees will take one year of prerequisite courses followed by a year of specialized training in lead and asbestos cleanup, hazardous materials handling, modern cleanup technologies, and health and safety. The college will help graduates find jobs, and provide career support for three years after the training is completed, the EPA said. Last month, the Turtle Mountain tribe received EPA funds to assess contamination at an abandoned mental hospital in Dunseith and develop plans for cleanup.
