The state has awarded another round of grants to American Indian tribes to help cover law enforcement expenses. State Justice Department officials say 10 tribes will receive a total of $692,000. Agency officials say the grants come out of tribal gaming money the state collects. No tax dollars are used. The grants typically have been used to cover personnel costs as well as purchase equipment such as uniforms and body armor. The Bad River Chippewa got $128,150, the most of any recipient. The St. Croix Chippewa was next with $113,700.
