Tribes Oppose Yuchi Nation Recognition

Six Indian tribes in Tennessee are asking the state to formally recognize them, but they're meeting opposition from recognized tribes. The Remnant Yuchi Nation lives in counties in far east Tennessee. The federal government has refused to grant them recognition, but the state is stepping in. "This legislation is designed to at least allow part or all of those tribes to be officially recognized as what they are -- Native Americans," said House Republican leader Jason Mumpower.
