GLENDALE, Ariz. – After years of patiently waiting, residents can get a glimpse of the major project taking form at the site of the Tohono O’odham Nation’s West Valley Resort. With the arrival of its multimillion-dollar steel order, work on the site has gone vertical as hundreds of workers are raising the framework for the casino-resort’s first permanent structure. The gaming facility is scheduled to open at the end of 2015.

The Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise (TOGE) has retained 40 separate companies thus far for construction, and continues its commitment to hiring locally. Also, more than 1,300 workers have been contracted to work on the project so far.

TOGE is committed to developing a first-class casino and resort, and has already invested millions into the design and development of the project. In addition to the steel work that has been done, a multimillion-dollar grading effort has been completed and concrete efforts are underway. Construction of the first phase facility and related infrastructure upgrades for the site will exceed $200 million in 2015, a major boost to the West Valley economy.

Once completed, more than 500 new, permanent jobs will be created in the community to operate the facility. It will feature 1,089 slots, food court, bar, and rewards center, and will include a 1,100 space surface parking lot. While this facility is operating, construction of the $400 million project will continue, including the permanent gaming facility and all of the resort amenities that go with it.
