Hedgpeth and his son Nicholas are hoping to share their Native American culture with the rest of the community. “People think that we are different and that our lives are different from theirs,” A.J. said. “We’re just trying not to lose an old tradition that has been good for us.” The two have recently become been members of the Na-Ma-Wo-Chi drumming and singing group, which started a year ago as a way to celebrate their roots.
