The Three Affiliated Tribes set aside $2 million for education and has announced plans for how some of the money will be used. A total of $500,000 will go to five schools on the Fort Berthold Reservation in New Town, Parshall, White Shield, Mandaree and Twin Buttes. About $300,000 will go into the tribe's Higher Education Grant Program to assist students. Another $200,000 will go to an employment training program. Tribal Chairman Tex Hall made the announcement during the 10th annual Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nations Education Week. The money comes from a fund the tribe got as compensation for land taken when the Garrison Dam was built.

The executive chef at 4 Bears Casino and Lodge is planning a menu of buffalo meat. Mike Roeper said the steaks, sausage and hamburger will come from a bison herd owned by the tribe which also owns the casino. "We're going to be able to purchase the whole buffalo and break it down ourselves," he said. Roeper said he might expand the menu further to include meat from animals in the tribally owned elk herd.
