CLOQUET, Minn. – Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College named Stephanie Hammitt as chief financial officer. In this campus leadership position, she is responsible for all fiscal, accounting and business functions of the college. Hammitt began serving in this role in January.
Prior to joining the college administration, Hammitt was the comptroller for the Fond du Lac Reservation for more than six years, and was the reservation’s internal auditor for five years before that.
She was responsible for all accounting-related functions for the reservation, including supervision of payroll, enterprise and program accounting divisions, casino accounting and vault management, accounting and reporting for more than 140 grants, and practicing internal controls to ensure safeguarding of assets. She successfully led a team that coordinated the integration of 19 different electronic databases into one comprehensive software system.
Hammitt previously served as director of fiscal operations at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College from 1990 to 1996, making her recent appointment a return to the business operations and administration at the college.
Hammitt holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth and is a graduate of Cloquet Senior High School and has been a resident of Cloquet for most of her life.
She is currently a member and serves as clerk of the Cloquet School Board of Independent School District No. 94. She is a former chair and member of the Fond du Lac Tribal College Board of Directors, a former president and member of the Cloquet Educational Foundation Board, and was secretary/treasurer and member of the Cloquet Women’s Hockey Auxiliary Board. In the past, Hammitt has participated in numerous community organizations
