Members of the St. Regis Mohawk tribe will vote June 6 on whether to exit the National Grid electric system and form an independent, tribally owned utility to serve the Akwesasne Indian Reservation. If the referendum passes, Akwesasne would be the first Upstate community to break away from National Grid since 1981.
