St. Regis Band of Mohawk Indians of New York

Jeffrey S. Favre, an executive with Park Place Entertainment, has been hired by the band as general manager of the struggling Akwesasne Casino at Hogansburg. Park Place is the New Jersey gambling firm looking to develop a casino with the Mohawks in the Catskills. It hopes to build a massive gaming hall in Monticello. Farve has been working as senior financial analyst for Park Place's Grand Casino in Gulfport, Miss., and roots in the Mississippi Choctaw Tribe of Philadelphia, Miss., the Mohawk tribal council announced. The attorney general's office says it has no plans to close any operations at the Akwesasne casino even though its gaming compact expired in late May. A proposed, amended compact would have given the tribe exclusive rights to set up expanded electronic gaming machines but was turned down by the federal government in July. Federal officials are seeking a pact more favorable to the tribe.
