Vice Chairman Howard Richards has resigned, citing a conflict in management style with Tribal Chairman John Baker Jr., tribal officials announced. Richards did not give up his seat on the tribal council, Councilor Pearl Casias said Nov. 27. He is at the end of his second term and is seeking re-election in a Dec. 19 runoff. The resignation is the latest in a string of setbacks for Baker. Two former tribal chairmen have urged his ouster in a Dec. 8 recall election. In his letter of resignation, Richards said Baker did not adequately consult with him on decisions or keep him informed of issues, Casias said. Baker appointed Richards to the vice chairmanship when Baker became chairman in December 1999.
