South Dakota Native Elsie Meeks sworn in as director of USDA's Rural Development

Elsie Meeks of Kyle was sworn in Tuesday as director of rural development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Meeks, a longtime civil rights and economic development leader in South Dakota's Native American community, is the first Native American to serve on the commission. “The Director of Rural Development plays an important role in our state and across rural America, and I know Elsie will do an outstanding job,” Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., said in a news release.
