Snoop Dogg Headdress Pic with ‘Knocahoe’ Comment Gets Heat on Social Media

Snoop Dogg came under fire on Thursday after posting an image of himself in a headdress with the comment, “Big chief knocanew. From the knocahoe tribe.”

Rapper Snoop Dogg got slammed on Thursday after posting a photo to social media of himself wearing a Native-style headdress. The Snoop Dogg headdress photo is a painting from a thus far unidentified artist or fan. In addition to the image, Snoop Dogg, who was born Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr., comments, “Big chief knocanew. From the knocahoe tribe.”

There is no Knocahoe tribe, and many surmise the comment is a likely play on words: ‘knock a hoe.’ This is not the first time Snoop Dogg has posted an image of himself wearing a headdress. In November 2014, he posted an image of himself wearing a headdress and standing next to a woman with the comment: “Are u a Navajo? No bitch I'm a knocahoe Hahahahaha they call me knocanew.!!”

Snoop Dogg has also appeared in videos on his YouTube Channel celebrating Thanksgiving wearing a headdress. In 2012, he wore the Native-style headdress and in several years to follow, women were dressed in suggestive pilgrim and Indian costumes.

For his Instagram and Twitter post on Thursday, most of the comments are against Snoop Dogg, yet the IG post has over 130,000 likes.

Vjhaynes - How disappointing! Not you Snoop! You should know better.

Queenyonasda - Dear @snoopdogg this is very disrespectful! Whether you are 50% native or even 100% native if you don’t know about the rich culture of your tribe than this is cultural appropriation disrespect.

Peterob2112 - Bunch of damn butt hurt people here. Damn. Snoop goes white face and it's all cool.

Jazzylicious2006 - So am I the only one that have a brain on here and see a drawing? I'm a 100% a fan... he's just showing his appreciation. Take the arrows out your asses.

Xtabay951- It’s so disrespectful. That bonnet isn't worn by just anyone. Its earned. Snoop lost a fan of 20+ yrs.

In 2010, Snoop Dogg appeared on an episode of Lopez Tonight in which George Lopez stated Snoop Dogg was 23% Native American, according to an official DNA test report. Snoop Dogg has never claimed a specific heritage.

Snoop Dogg did not respond to ICMN requests for comment.
