Councilors attending a Rules Committee meeting Thursday discussed the possibility of allowing gambling machines inside tribally licensed smoke shops, which are not owned by the tribe but are on trust or restricted land and are licensed by the tribe to sell tobacco. The agenda item, presented by Councilor Chuck Hoskin Jr. for discussion only, asked, "Should Cherokee Nation license retail smoke shops to sell alcohol and/or operate gaming machines?"
