Shane Victorino, The Flyin' Hawaiian, Signs with the Boston Red Sox

ESPN is reporting that Shane "The Flyin' Hawaiian" Victorino, Native Hawaiian, has signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox.

Victorino, who's currently on a snorkeling vacation in Hawaii, Tweeted: "Just agreed to join the Boston (at)RedSox in the middle of paradise, (hash)BLESSED!!! Can't wait to get to Boston!"

The Flyin' Hawaiian, a skilled free-agent outfielder, had been with the LA Dodgers, after having been traded to that club by the Philadelphia Phillies midseason. Although he had a down season, batting .255 with 11 homers and 55 RBIs, the Red Sox were aggressive and landed Victorino with a reported three-year, $39 million deal. He will have to pass a physical, most likely just a formality.

Although the Flyin' Hawaiian is a natural center fielder, the Red Sox already have fellow Native player Jacoby Ellsbury, Navajo and a member of the Colorado River Tribe, in that position. It's likely that Victorino will take over in right field.
