Sequoyah Schools Announces Top Students


Sequoyah Schools recently announced its valedictorian and salutatorian for the graduating class of 2012. This year’s valedictorian is 17-year-old Shawn Belcher, and the salutatorian is Brendan Francis, also 17.

Belcher, who is Cherokee, Choctaw and Creek, is a member of the National Honor Society and is active in robotics, journalism, and computer club. He is a cheerleader and has been named as a finalist in the Gates Millennium Scholarship competition. He plans to go to the University of Arkansas in the fall for computer engineering.

Francis, who is Caddo, participates in cross-country, track, academic team, 4-H, drama and speech. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and plans on attending Oklahoma Baptist University.

The Sequoyah Schools graduation will be held May 18.

According to a press release, the following seniors are currently ranked in the top ten percent of their graduating class at Sequoyah Schools, Harley Adair, Kody Fisher, Brittany Hensley, Ashley Roach, Joleen Scott, Dylan Tucker, Dillon Wade and Carmen Wiley.
