The city of Salamanca has received an $8,000 grant to improve the Community Walk Trail and promote good health. The project was begun as a venture between the city and the Nation. The trail is an abandoned railroad bed cleared from Parkway Drive to Center Street on the city's south side. The grant will allow the city to continue brush and tree clearing and post stop signs where the trail crosses city streets. The city also will install benches along the trail and lighting near the Messenger Street area. The grant was awarded by the Cornell Cooperative Extension through the southern Tier Health Heart Partnership, which promotes health activities.
