From April 12-14 the Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community will host the Seventh Annual Salt River Veterans Recognition Pow Wow. This is a pow wow to honor and recognize all veterans.
The On Akimel O’odham/Xalychidom Piipaash Social will be held Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by bird dance and singing contests. Ribbon shirts for men and boys will be required to enter the contests.
Gourd dancing will take place both Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. both days; the dances are formal and proper attire will be required. At 5.30 p.m. on Saturday, the retrieval of the Colors will take place, with Grand Entry beginning at 7 p.m. The closing song will take place at 11 p.m.
Sunday's Grand Entry starts at noon, followed by the retrieval of the Colors and closing songs at 6 p.m.

MC is Dennis Bowen Sr. of Tuba City, Arizona; Host Southern drum is Yellowhammer of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and host Northern drum is War Horse, from Arizona. The host Gourd Society/Color Guard is Salt River American Legion Post No. 114, the "Bushmasters."
Head man is Thunder Lieb of Ponca City and head lady is Janet Garcia of the Salt River Indian Community.
The pow wow will be held at the Salt River Ballfied, at the corner of McDowell & Longmore Rd in Salt River.
